I can honestly recommend a visit to Dean's wonderful reflection pool & Harvest Mice workshop...PERIOD. If like me, you have a passion for wildlife & photography then you are not going to be disappointed
.Firstly, your host Dean is an extremely passionate man when it comes to photography and wildlife. His eye for detail in reference to the hide set up and reflection pool is second to none and is only too willing to help you get the very best out of your day.
Considering it was a beautiful warm sunny day, the birds kept appearing at the hide in abundance. The Bullfinches (male & female) were frequent throughout the day and were the stars of the show in my opinion. The Nuthatch was another frequent visitor who's various postures were amazing to see. It was fantastic to see the Nuthatch actually jamming sunflower seeds into crevices for them to be hammered at with it's powerful bill. The Tit gang were abundant throughout the day minus The long Tailed Tits who sadly failed to make the party....and it was Jon's birthday today. One big surprise visitor was a stunning Male Pheasant who wanted to get in on the act but we decided it was best to move him on from the pool as he would probably have polished most, if not all of the food in one sitting. Another memorable moment was seeing possibly the prettiest conditioned Male Chaffinch that I've ever seen....Simply stunning!!! Sadly it was a day where we only saw 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker visit the area. On both occasions it was a lovely female that hit the fatball feeder which was central to our view. We did decide to move that actual feeder to the left of the pool to try and entice the GPW onto the post or the log props but sadly she was having none of it. I must add though that we constantly heard GSW and green Woodpeckers close to our quarry so we were a bit unlucky in that respect. Moving on to the mini superstars in the animal kingdom...The Harvest Mice. So much has been written about these little beauties and it's hard to imagine anybody not wanting to see or be blessed enough to actually photograph one. This was one of the main reasons why I decided to pay Dean a visit because I have never actually seen one of these species in the wild.
They are just incredible and I can fully understand why Mr & Mrs Mason are in awe of them. I actually called Dean the 'Mice Whisperer' which I thought was appropriate...lol. Also, Dean has released at least 20 of his mice back into their natural wild environment which is quite superb!

Thanks very much Dean for a wonderful experience (well appreciated).
We met you as our host but we left you as our mate....Brian P Slade & Jonny Cox April 20th 2018

I had a super combo day at Dean's last Wednesday. The reflection pool is beautiful with a huge variety of visitors in and out all day. The mice are absolutely amazing and I loved photographing them. Dean's care for the mice is impressive and his knowledge of their behaviour ensures a really rewarding experience. The whole day was well organised and great fun. Highly recommended!

Thanks Dean for a great morning at the Woodland Pool. Managed to capture some great images and loved seeing Bullfinches - can't remember last time I saw one down here. Must be one of the best hides I have been in-really comfortable. Will definitely be back and look forward to having a go at the harvest mice. Thanks again

Hi Dean and Steph
Thank you for a really special day on Saturday with the harvest mice and the reflection pool. You have created two wonderful photography experiences for both amateurs and proffesionals and I can't wait to come again . Your hide at the reflection pool is one of the best that I have seen and you have obviously spent alot of time getting it right. I would also like to say how nice it was to have someone who really cared about the experience that his clients were having . You both deserve every success that comes your way . Thanks again , I will send you a handful of photos when I have had time to go through them properly

Thoroughly recommended.

Thanks Dean.

Thanks Dean, had a great day with both the bird hide and the Harvest mice. Got some great shots and I will returning in the Autumn. Loved the Bullfinches in the reflection pool along with Long-tailed Tits and male & female woodpeckers.

Another brilliant morning spent with Dean and his gorgeous mice! Dean is always so accommodating and friendly to deal with and it's so nice to be able to photograph these adorable creatures, especially when their welfare is paramount to everything Dean does.
natural conditions, and the ability to bring your own "props" really makes for good photos, the mice loved weaving in and out of the cherry blossom I brought - such great pictures.
sadly could only stay for the morning but will be back again soon to do the reflection pool again - always something to look forward to at Dean's place!

There is not much you can say that hasn't already been said but to add my twopen'th....
The reflection pool hide has been extremely well though out to provide every facility for both birds and the photographer - far more than I'm used to! The birds kept coming all morning with the regular visits from bullfinches which were the highlight for me. A jay would have been nice but he kept his distance so that's just an excuse to go back again!
The hardest thing about a morning out here will be trying to whittle down the keepers...you have to start getting really picky otherwise its easy to remain in 3 figures after just 4hrs in the hide.
Really worthwhile - thank you Dean.

My daughter and I spent a great day at the reflection pool hide with excellent opportunities to photograph woodland birds. The weather was wet for much of the day but hide was warm and cosy; the birds still showed, the colours were saturated, and the sun came out occasionally. Definitely a day well spent – would recommend.

I discovered Dean's workshops via one of his previous customers' posts on Facebook in a Wildlife Photography group.

I booked myself onto one of the next available days Dean could fit me in. From the start he was amazing to deal with and to meet him in person on the day was incredible. I'd seen his work before on Country File, but didn't realise at the time that it was the same person.

Dean's passion for wildlife and wildlife photography is truly second to none and it's a real privilege to have been able to attend his workshop.

I did the combination workshop day. He met myself and my girlfriend at the pre-arranged location and then we followed him to the hide location. The weather decided to be kind, as did the birds and mice. We both came away with some amazing photos and fantastic new memories.

As other comments below say, nothing is too much trouble for Dean, and the hide and facilities there are the best I've ever experienced.

Hopefully I'll be down Dorset way again in the not too distant future, and if I am, I'll definitely be visiting Dean again.

In short - I can't recommend Dean's workshop or rate them highly enough!

Dean Mason, Combination work shop day , What a lovely man to meet , nothing was too much trouble on the day, the bird hide with tea and coffee a kettle and a stove also a toilet was all laid on, the set up with reflected pool was brilliant, the harvest mice it was a little windy but you cant help the weather. With all the rain wev'e been having it was a bit muddy so welly boots needed , but for someone like Dean to help you off with muddy boots so you don't get mud all in your car, how good was that.. All in all myself and Merv had a brilliant day we would recommend any one to go to , Dean's work shops , We Will Be Going Again Soon . Thanks Dean your are a real mate ..

A fabulous day at the Windows on Wildlife hide yesterday. As usual, Dean supplied everything needed for a successful day, from the comfortable warm hide to tea and coffee making facilities and even foot ware protection to ensure our safety in rather wetter than normal conditions. Highlights were numerous visits by both male and female bullfinches and some nice grey squirrel reflections as well
We have done both the reflection pool and harvest mice in the past and are looking forward to another mice session in a few weeks time

I spent a lovely morning photographing birds at the window on wildlife hide. The hide is very well kitted out with everything needed including a kettle and supply of tea and coffee, and a WC. The setup and the birds are absolutely amazing and some of the highlights for me were at least 4 visits from the Bull Finches and Green Finches. I hope to go back in the near future.

I had a fantastic morning at Dean's hide. I'm a complete beginner at DSLR photography and Dean stayed to give me tuition - he is very friendly and taught me how to set my camera up and helped me to get some amazing photos - I was absolutely delighted with them. There were so many birds that often I didn't know which way to look - long tailed tits, marsh tits, robins, great spotted woodpeckers, bull finches and many more. I loved it so much I've booked to go again in June and I can't wait!

Just arrived home after a great day’s photography with Dean on his combination day (woodland land pool hide and harvest mice. The day was memorable. Numerous birds at the pool and a lovely hide. It was great to be able to have coffee/tea when you want. Harvest mice photography was good. Dean truly cares for the welfare of the mice. I hope to be able to join another combination day.

Had a fantastic afternoon with the wildlife at the woodland pool hide. The hide has everything you could possibly need including gimbal heads.
The birds put on a fantastic show, and so did a squirrel!
Dean and Stef are lovely genuine people with a real passion for the wildlife. And once set up in the hide you are left to enjoy your experience. After a busy few months this was just the therapy I needed.

I had a fantastic day with Dean and Steph yesterday at windows on wildlife. I was there for the whole day, spending time with the mice and in the reflection pool hide. The mouse experience was wonderful - the love and respect Dean has for his mice was lovely to see - they truly care for these creatures, and did everything possible to enable me to get the shots I was after. Dean was genuinely pleased when the mice did what we hoped they would to get the images! The reflection pool was lovely too - very comfy and everything you need. I liked how Dean left me to enjoy the peace on my own. A truly magical day, and I will return very soon hopefully!

Dean thank you for enabling a memorable photographic experience, your hide is comfortable for photographers, the Gimbal heads make it easy to track the action and you reflection pool and adjacent props are ingenious proving a wealth of artistic opportunities, all in all a fantastic way to spend photographing a large selection of our native birds, simply brilliant.

What a day we had, the new hide is even better than the old which was fab. Well decked out comfortable, free hot drinks and a loo. The birds came in all the time, had male and female bullfinches and a Jay. Dean his usual friendly self and very helpful to my friend who was not as confident. Will be back again soon. Can’t recomend it enough

After photographing Dean’s harvest mice last year. I decided to try the new bird hide. I was so pleased that I did. The hide itself is extremely well made, very comfortable and includes refreshments and a toilet. The shelves holding the cameras is very secure and has the arca-swiss adaptors, a very useful addition. The bird activity was amazing, a large number of different species visited very regularly, there was rarely a time when the camera was not in action. Overall a massive 10/10 for a fantastic day out and terrific value for money.

I spent the morning at the bird hide and had an absolutely fabulous time. I have been twice before but this is the first time in the ‘new’ hide. Dean and Steph have pulled out all the stops with this hide.

It rained on and off during the morning but the rain brought out the birds even more. I had so many birds visiting and going to lots of different places on the reflection pool and on the various props for so many different scenes. I say ‘props’ but they are really tastefully done and when you see the photographs they look absolutely stunning.

All mod cons inside the hide, with tea and coffee facilities, and even a portaloo outside.

If anybody is reading this and is hesitating about going along please don’t hesitate, just book! It is an absolutely fabulous experience. This is the third time I’ve visited the bird hide and I’ve also photographed the harvest mice which is equally great to do. Dean and Steph are marvellous people in their own right and really want you to have a great experience.

All that is left is for me to find another date in my diary to come back for spring!

My first visit to Dean's hide yesterday (8th March). What a treat! The activity was non stop with the special treat of 20-30 visits from male Bullfinches. The hide is incredibly well equiped and 8 hours passed in a flash. Now looking forward to sorting and working on the images. Thanks Dean.

Had an exceptional day today at Dean’s reflection pool. I did the combo day with the harvest mice and we had great fun with his woodland scene. Dean is a great host and has an outstanding Hide Offering a wide variety of great photo opportunities. The hide is very comfortable with the added bonus of tea making facilities included inside.

The harvest mice set ups are extremely well thought out offering lots of brilliant photos whilst taking excellent care of the mice.

I can’t recommend the day enough, and I’ll definitely be returning soon

I recently spent the day at Dean's reflection pool and also the harvest mice. I thoroughly enjoyed it and was amazed at how many birds kept popping down, included beautiful bullfinches, several species of tits, woodpecker etc. When I arrived the reflection pool was frozen which made a beautiful backdrop. After a few hours (and lots of hot coffee!), I went to photograph the harvest mice who were absolutely adorable and obviously much loved by Dean and Steph. By the time I got back to the reflection pool for an afternoon session it had defrosted and was like a mirror. It was a wonderful day and I will definitely be back there later in the year.

A fantastic morning in the Reflection Hide. So many different birds visiting and feeding. The bullfinches alighted to feed frequently and they are a joy to see. Lots of blue tits, great tits, dunnock, G.S. Woodpecker, LLTs, to name but a few. The pool which Dean has set up is delightful and so lifelike. This is my second trip to Dean’s. The first was to photograph the Harvest Mice which was sheer delight. I will definitely go back to both and I recommend this as a must-do in your life. And Dean even supples coffee or tea.

Another successful session with Dean, this time at the reflection pool, which resulted in numerous pics that I'm absolutely delighted with.
Aside from the comfort of the '5-star' hide, Dean's passion for and knowledge of the wildlife is second to none, which makes for a terrific experience.
A lot of thought has gone into the design/construction of the hide and pool in order to provide natural backdrops for your photographs.
I would thoroughly recommend this for photographers of all abilities.

Recently enjoyed 4 hours of photography from the Reflection Hide. The bird activity was non-stop with several visits from bullfinch, chaffinch, nuthatch, great-spotted woodpeckers, coal tits and a small flock of long-tailed tits. Great tits and blue tits were numerous. A jay was spotted in the vicinity. A day or so before it had come close enough for Dean to photograph.

The hide had been equipped with two Sevenoak gimbal heads mounted onto hide plates, so there was no need to set up a tripod. The gimbal head had an Arca-Swiss style quick release plate that provided attachment for the Arca-Swiss quick release foot on the tripod collar of my lens.

There was plenty of bird food available for me to top up the hidden crevices with nuts, seeds and suet when required. Dean suggested replenishing the food after about an hour and a half which was about the right time.

The area around the hide was very muddy (my visit was in February after a lot of rain) so wellington boots were essential.

Definitely recommended!

I have already had the fortune to have visited this location with Dean Mason to do a photoshoot with Harvest Mice which was excellent.
This time I had booked the woodland hide for the purpose of adding British birds to my wildlife portfolio, the experience was superb.
The hide is comfortable and dry with ample supply of tea and coffee, yes, I know, I thought the same, never had this luxury before, and then I was introduced to the portaloo next door to the hide.
The hide and its setup and feeding perches are impressive, well designed, plenty of choice, the tap on an old post being my favourite, with superb natural backgrounds.
This hide has been designed by a person who is a wildlife photographer and has paid particular photographers ideals in the detail to its design. There are even Gimbal heads and/or bean bags provided.
One of the best hides I have ever had the pleasure to hire.
Going back... you betcha.

Dean - I would like to congratulate you on all the hard work and attention to detail that has gone into creating the woodland hide. The whole experience is fabulous, and it's great to meet someone as accomplished and passionate about their craft who is so approachable and enthusiastic !

Several Bullfinches, Long-tailed Tits, G-s Woodpecker, the sneaky Marsh Tit and the male Sparrowhawk together with industrial quantities of Blue, Great & Coal Tits, meant there was virtually no time in the day when there wasn't a photo opportunity of some kind....

I can't wait to return, and wish you every success as the year unfolds.

Many thanks again,

Steve.

This was a first time visit to Dean's reflection pool and hide yesterday and what a wonderful day it turned out to be. The hide is very comfortable to spend time in and being able to make a cup of tea is an absolute bonus. There were many birds very frequently visiting including the bullfinches and woodpecker. The reflection pool was like a mirror and was absolutely stunning when the birds were sitting on the sides.

We also photographed the harvest mice which was an absolute delight. It is abundantly clear that those sweet little creatures are much loved and cared for by Dean and Steph and the set-up was very well done.

It was a very comfortable, enjoyable day and I am determined to return. It is certainly an experience to be recommended.

Visited Deans hide on 12/02/17

This was my first visit to the Reflection pool hide, I had a great day met Dean in the morning who stayed with me for a bit and got me all set up.It was freezing but in the hide with the stove on and lots of hot coffee I was nice and warm.
Non stop visits from various species including a pair of male Bullfinches first time I have photographed these.I took tons of pics and still haven't had time to look through them all.
This has to be the best hide set up for woodland birds in the country.I highly recommend a visit,i will be back for sure.
Many thanks Dean

I had my first visit to the new reflection pool and hide yesterday. If you have been to the old hide, the new one is better. There are better backgrounds and, of course, bullfinches, at least at time of writing. There are also plenty of other birds, you will be spoiled for choice. The only note of caution is that it is very muddy, especially after rain. I know Dean has plans to do something about this, but for the meanwhile be sure to take your wellies!

Hello mate,
Just a quick note to say a big thanks for the fantastic day I had in your woodland pool hide the other day.
Apart from the hide and set up being top,top class and in a league of it’s own as described by all below, for me it is the sheer variety and constant activity from the species that are expertly attracted to the hide that sets it apart from all other pool type hides I have visited.

Make no mistake there are some great species visiting this hide that would be a draw for any nature photographer and, although all the usual common suspects can be photographed in abundance here, it is the Bullfinch, Marsh Tit, Nuthatch and Long-Tailed Tits that are the current stars of the show with the Bullfinches appearing more times than can be counted, and in such fantastic condition too,not to mention the marauding Sparrowhawk that is fast becoming a regular too.
Top day mate, great to catch up with you and hope to return soon.

Great morning session spent in the reflection pool hide. Plenty of birds to keep me busy.
No glass to shoot through & a nice angle to frame your subjects from a comfy seated position.
Quite a cold day but warm enough in the hide with tea making facilities & a loo if required.
Dean made me feel welcome & showed the set-up before leaving me to watch the show.
A great morning Dean, thank you. Hope to return for something different another day 👍

I visited yesterday for a combination Bird Hide and Harvest Mouse day. What a fabulous day it was! I took my own little prop, a paper cocktail umbrella, to use with the mice and they loved it! Made me laugh so much and took some fab pics! The bird hide is very well equipped and nice and warm too! Dean and Steph are both lovely people and Dean is on hand to assist with camera settings etc. Well worth the effort to get there (from wherever you live!). I can thoroughly recommend it, and I’ll be back when I’ve cleaned the mud off my wellies!😊

Just got back from a great day photographing both birds in the reflection pool and the harvest mice. Fantastic day, thousands of images to sort through! I visited for the first time between Christmas and New Year - on a bitterly cold day. I was snug and warm in the hide, well sustained by hot coffee and the birds were fantastic. 21 species (although a lot of Blue Tits!) and some good light, aided by the low angle of the sun in December. I will definitely be back soon.........

Visited Dean's hide on 10/12/17.

What a great morning we had!
I was slightly dubious of the day as it was very cold in the morning and the pool was frozen.
But having just finished going through my images, the frozen pool ones are amongst the best. The dew and frost on the foilage is amazing.
I had my lens set on about 370 (full frame) most of the day, and I feel that was the correct length, as it gives room for cropping.
Tea, coffee and toilet facilities were most welcome.
The only thing I'd reccomend is wearing of long walking boots or wellies in this wet and muddy conditions.
Will be returning in early spring time

I had the pleasure of meeting Dean and Steph yesterday and being a complete novice (2nd time out with camera) was soon put at ease and I had a fantastic day. Such a great location and 'comfortable' hide... I even spotted a pair of slippers in the corner!.
The reflection pool had frozen over and Dean had asked if I wanted to reschedule but glad I didn't, got some great shots of blue tits skating on ice!
As the day went on it did thaw a little so got some great reflection pics too. The harvest mice are just too cute for words and so very well looked after. I got some brilliant photographs and had lots of professional advice too.
Fully recommend this experience and will definitely be returning. Thank you Dean and Steph for your great hospitality.

Like Jayne below, I've visited Dean's old hide, and only last week his new one.. If you want to be in a purely natural environment, no backing boards, no studio lighting, have one of the very best reflection pools around, and a comfortable hide with all mod cons at your disposal. You have to give Dean a call and arrange a visit, you won't be disappointed, being able to photograph the wonderful wildlife in such an idilic position makes your visit to Deans hide all the more enjoyable. As for Dean, he is one of the most genuine people I have ever known, him and his wife Steph have worked extremely hard to bring this venture to life, and I am so glad it is paying off..

I have visited Dean's 'old' hide at a previous location on many occasions and always described it as the best reflection pool in the land...... well I was wrong!! In developing his new hide Dean has taken everything positive from the old hide but has made it even better. The set up around the pool is superbly natural and the absence of a backboard means the background retains a beautifully natural feel - this is a real bonus. The hide is so comfortable with Dean's usual fantastic hospitality. His dedication to providing clients with the best opportunities cannot be faltered....and with the added bonus of a constant supply of tea or coffee and the luxury of a loo it's just a fabulous place to spend a day.

I have just returned from a wonderful 2 days with Dean and Steph. I spent 1 day mesmerised by harvest mice and 1 day in the reflection pool hide. It was a wonderful experience. The outdoor setting for the harvest mice is a welcome change from the usual studio setting. The mice are extremely well cared for which is paramount in my view. They are able to run about naturally with minimal handling involved. They are happy to just do their thing allowing you, the photographer, to simply take as long or as little time as you wish to capture them posing amongst the props. I came away with over 2000 images, not surprising as they are very photogenic and I was on burst mode!

The reflection pool hide is located in a natural setting and has been dressed beautifully to provide great opportunities for reflection images of woodland birds. Gimbal heads are supplied and I was warm and comfortable all day. Visitors to the hide included long tailed tits, woodpeckers, nuthatch, pheasant, blue, great and coal tits and a sparrow hawk. As the photographer you have the chance to place seeds and nuts where you would like the birds to visit so you can do your best to get the image that is in your head! Obviously we are dealing with wildlife and there are no guarantees but Dean and Steph have everything set up to give you the best chance to come away with a stunning set of images. Dean is on hand all day to offer his expertise also so you do not need to worry if you are unsure about camera settings and the like.

Finally, there is an all day long supply of tea and coffee and access to a loo. I have attended many workshops (I run them myself) and I strongly recommend Dean and Steph to photographers of all levels to attend one or more of their workshops. You will come away with a great set of images and will be very well looked after. Remember to take plenty of memory cards with you!!!

Thank you Dean and Steph for your company, hospitality and a most enjoyable morning with the harvest mice. There was plenty of time to observe their behaviour and anticipate their moves.
What perfect little posers they were!
Absolutely adorable, very entertaining and so much smaller than I expected.
Thanks too for the advice on settings when they weren't quite as sharp as I'd hoped. Just waiting for them to upload now so I'm very hopeful for at least a handful of pics that will make me smile.

What a wonderful experience. Such a joy to see these beautifully agile little harvest mice in such a natural setting. Dean has a great rapport and clearly loves his mice. Helpful, knowledgable and even makes you coffee or tea. Photographing these gorgeous little creatures was a start to a perfect day. Thank you Dean.

Thank you Dean for an amazing experience with the Harvest Mice. We fell in love with the little critters such characters . It was a cold, sunny, muddy day due to the rain the night before but that certainly did not put us off. Dean was at hand to change the scenarios and the mice are so inquisitive they can't help pose for you. I have to admit I concentrated too much on depth of field trying to capture their adorable faces but still got some great shots. A must for anyone who loves photography, we will definitely be back.
Highly Recommended.

Thank you Dean & Steph for another amazing session with the adorable Harvest Mice. I smile every time I think of those little furry friends of yours and I just love the way you talk to them like your children:-)
I'm so glad I took your advice and got the Sigma 105mm Macro lens, it made such a difference.
For anyone thinking of booking a session then I suggest you get on and do it, you won't be disappointed. Dean is seriously knowledgeable, extremely encouraging and such a kind person which shows in the way he handles the Harvest Mice. I'm a novice at photography but felt totally at ease and able to ask questions without feeling self conscious. We will definitely be back. Thanks again, Kathy & Ian

Coming from the Netherlands to photograph the Harvest Mice for two morningsessions. Did it already in august so i knew it was awesome. Now with the fall colors wich was also very very good. The weather was very nice. The mice were entertaining, hilarious and so cute. If you are into naturephotography this is a must. Dean gets out of his way to make the workshop a succes. Very nice guy also and honest. I can highly recommend this. Also from overseas. Just fly to Southampton or drive. Both very easy. The whole experience is great. Besides that it is something special. You photograph these cute mice with natural light outside in a beautiful rural area.
Thanks Dean for two amazing morningsessions.

Dean, just wanted to say had a great time on Sunday photographing The Harvest Mice. It was a fantastic experience and would recommend to anyone. My wife who is disabled now wants to book on the course because as well as being informative it was so accessible. I haven't been able to share my photography experience with her but look forward to 'the reflection pool' soon.
Your expertise was invaluable and I came away with some great shots. Cheers Dave

Dean, I never normally bother to do this but after such a great day on Saturday I just had to give you feedback. As you know I have seen great things around the world in terms of wildlife but the day spent with your mice ranks right up there. For those photographers thinking about visiting Dean- do it. He is brilliant with the mice and you will have smile on your face all day. There is lots of action but Dean is so careful with every single mouse you would think it was his child ! Great time and thanks again.

A great afternoon of successful photography. With the weather looking dodgy, Dean called and suggested rescheduling. But he was happy that I wanted to go ahead. The setting was excellent, with Dean offering as little or as much photographic advice and assistance as was needed. Definitely a preliminary visit for me; I will be back.

17.10.17 - Harvest Mice
Today was a brilliant experience and one that I enjoyed from start to finish. Dean was welcoming and knowledgeable, and although I am pretty much a novice, especially when it comes to wildlife photography, I came away from the session with some lovely shots of the enchanting, inquisitive Harvest Mice. Thank you Dean for the chance to escape to the peace and quiet, and have the ability to chill out with smallest rodents I've ever encountered!!

If you are thinking of booking a session – stop right now, don’t waste another minute and get it booked!
We’ve just had a session with the harvest mice and it was fantastic – Dean and Steph made us so welcome from the minute we met them and the time simply flew by.
Dean’s knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for photography meant that we were able to get some terrific pictures whilst having a thoroughly enjoyable time – be warned though, you will need spare cards and batteries – I filled my card with 1200 images!
What delighted us most was how natural everything was – the location, the backgrounds (hedges & field) and how the mice were looked after and treated.
Thank you so much, Dean – it was a pleasure to meet both you and Steph. We will be recommending this to everyone we know and we’re already planning on coming back.

I recently attended one of Dean's workshops with a friend to photograph Harvest Mice. I must admit I did not know what to expect from the session. Dean clearly cares for the mice as well as wildlife in general and knows his subject very well. He made sure none of the mice were stressed in any way, they just did things naturally and were so inquisitive when Dean carefully swapped out items for them to explore and climb on. It was a great session and will undoubtedly book more of Dean's workshops because I know they will be very well run with care about the wildlife. The only thing that will stop me getting great images will be my ability with the camera and Dean will even help with advice on that too.

Thanks for a great session Dean, hope to see you again very soon.

I've wanted to do a harvest mice workshop with Dean for a while and was delighted recently when I managed to attend one with a friend. We've known Dean for a while through seeing him at another hide location so we were aware of his dedication and patience photographing wildlife. What is very striking though is his awareness and ability to treat nature with consideration and respect so what you are photographing is completely natural. It was very apparent that the harvest mice were not stressed in any way by our presence, in fact I think they seemed to enjoy showing off their acrobatic skills.
After a very enjoyable morning we agreed it was a fabulous experience and will definitely book more workshops with Dean in the future. We are particularly looking forward to his reflection pool set up in what is an idilic location.
Thanks again Dean for the wonderful experience.

Another superb session with Dean and his adorable harvest mice. You only have to see Dean in action and you will know straight away how genuine and passionate he is about caring for the mice. The WoW set up is superb - outdoors, natural but very sheltered in inclement weather so no one will ever miss a session. What is even more special is Dean's personal approach. He works with you ensuring you get the shots you want, not something pre-set. Thank you Dean - I came away with exactly what I envisaged prior to the session - you are a star :-)

Loved the outdoor location and the ability to move around for different backgrounds.
Very happy with our photos and would highly recommend this workshop.

Thanks Dean for a wonderful morning photographing your Harvest Mice.
Your photogenic outdoor location certainly beats photographing in a shed under artificial light into a cocked hat.
I don't know if Harvest Mice have "happy" feelings but yours certainly seemed quite happy carrying out their activities which can only reflect as the ultimate compliment to your obvious caring and husbandry.
I was able to get some unbelievable quality images such as I have been chasing for years - all in a morning!!
Thanks again - I can't wait to give your reflection pool a run for its money!

What a lovely experience with the harvest mice. Absolutely therapeutic watching these tiny little mice doing their own thing and clicking pictures.

A really great one and a half days spent with Dean, initially photographing his enchanting harvest mice followed by a day spent in his superb Reflection Pool hide watching and photographing the constant flow of wonderful birdlife. I am already looking forward very much to my next visit in 2018.

Just a few words to describe my second visit to the reflection pool and yet again this did not disappoint..plenty of birds throughout the day, This just has to be on every ones to do list.. Dean let me put a camera outside the hide with a triggering system so the birds photographed themselves...
Great day, top class host, great coffee and great photography...thanks mate, see you soon. Steve

I had seen some images from Dean's workshop on line and thought how nice and natural they looked.

Boy was I in for a pleasant surprise, the 2 1/2 hours flew by, capturing these cute little creatures on camera was so much fun, and all in an outdoor covered location. Providing a natural backdrop. Roe deer even made an appearance!!

Dean helps you with camera settings if you are a novice. Also provides much needed refreshments.

It was such a pleasant day out, we will be returning soon.
Thanks Dean!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Dean for the first time on my Harvest Mouse session on the morning on 13th September. Having been escorted to the site he made a welcome brew whilst he talked me through the setup and introduced me to his 'assistants'.

His knowledge and passion showed through very quickly. I had not realised just how small the Harvest Mice were, they are the most delightful engaging little creatures and oh so photogenic.

Dean's handling of them was in my opinion the best I had seen of the way to treat animals, he has a respect of and for them that we can all learn from..............the photographic stage allowed them to roam and naturally interact with each other including their behaviour on the 'props'.

Though I shot many frames (still to review & cull, let alone flag the best ones) I also enjoyed just watching them, it is not just about the photography.

If you get the chance to see and photograph the Harvest Mice, do not delay ~ just do it, you will not regret it and if like me I suspect you will will still be smiling afterwards when you describe the experience :)

Enjoyed a wonderful morning photographing harvest mice with Dean. The weather wasn't ideal but it didn't matter because with the gazebo covering the whole area made it possible to continue with no problems.Looking at the photos I took, you wouldn't even realise that it was raining.
It was really amusing, not only the antics of the mice but Dean and Steph were great hosts...even getting me warmed up with a cup of coffee!
I would recommend this workshop to anyone,it was 2.5 hours of constant mouse activity with a change of props and different background options.

I had a fabulous morning with Dean at one of his Harvest Mice Photography Workshops. Every detail was covered, from a perfect location to a wide selection of natural settings to choose from for the mice to run around on.
The welfare of the mice is the primary factor, and Dean was very attentive to their needs.

Assisted by Dean's knowledge of his subjects, as well as his advice on suitable camera settings for the conditions on the day, I was able to come away with many more good photographs than I expected.

Highly recommended for photographers of every level, and great value.

As a change to harvest mice, I treated myself to a day at the reflection pool hide recently. The woodpeckers were amazing, at least three (a female and two youngsters) down regularly, and there may well have been more. Dean kept me well supplied with tea and coffee, in what is probably the most comfortable hide I have ever occupied. Recommended.

I've just spent another fantastic morning and afternoon session at Windows on Wildlife in the company of Dean Mason and his little harvest mice. Dean almost has these mice performing to order, they seem to know what is required of them and they perform accordingly. The main problem you will have after a visit to Windows on Wildlife is deciding which images to discard, obviously you cannot keep all of them but you will want to because they are so cute, all that was missing from the visit was the mice bowing after their performance. Unfortunately the day had to be cut short because Dean received a phone call that caused him a bit of distress, I noticed something was wrong and offered to bring the second session to a close, so that he could go and deal with the problem, being the guy that he is Dean offered to stay until the end, but I said that I would just go and he hurried away. Less than an hour later I noticed that Dean had refunded all of my money, for both the morning and afternoon sessions, I had literally had a free day courtesy of Windows on Wildlife. Thanks Dean I owe you mate, this is not just a business venture that Dean runs here, this is a real gem of a lad living out his passion. I won't be back home anytime soon but I will post some images when I get back. Go and visit him soon, you will love it.

A lot of extremely positive comments have already been said about the Harvest Mice hide and my wife and I agree wholeheartedly 100% with them.
We were met promptly on time by Dean at the meeting point he suggested, after a very friendly welcome Dean took us off to our venue to meet the Harvest mice.
A 5 minute drive and a 5 minute walk and as we turned the corner we were presented with a really amazing impressive setup for these fabulous tiny mammals, we were treated like royalty by Dean and he went over and beyond to help us get the shots we wanted, Dean understands photography and above all photographers so when we finished our session 2.5 hours later we both felt that this was truly one of the best wildlife workshops ever, trust me, I have been on a few wildlife shoots from Osprey in the Scottish Highlands to Humpback Whales in New Zealand and this setup has a definite WOW factor, fair play to you Dean, just perfect, coming back, you betcha, after our first attempt with some brilliant shots, we have had time to reflect on some other shots so we are coming back for some more.
For those of you who haven't made up your minds yet, miss this photoshoot at your peril, it is obviously small but so professionally put together from a very knowledgeable man,
Thanks Dean for a great day.

An absolutely fantastic morning spent at Dean's Reflection Pool hide. This is an absolutely superbly comfortable hide. The reflection pool is beautifully maintained with such attention to detail to give natural images. A great selection of woodland birds visited throughout the morning but the star of the show is always the Greater Spotted Woodpecker. Thank you once again Dean for you hospitality :-)

I have returned from a phenomenal weekend with Dean and his harvest mice! Until now I'd only seen harvest mice on photos and I just had to go there myself and wow what a fantastic experience it was! I was amazed by the cuteness of these tiny mice (I'd never thought I would say that about mice by the way).
Dean did a fantastic job on the setting with an amazing assortment of (fresh) perches even down to protecting the mice from the sun and rain. You should be very proud of your set-up!
Thank you Dean and Steph for being such wonderful hosts and sharing your charismatic harvest mice with photographers giving them the opportunity to photograph unique images! Although I must warn everyone, photographing harvest mice can be addictive. I hope to see you again in the future!

I booked Deans harvest mice workshop as a treat for myself, and what a treat it was. Right from the moment of my enquiry, Dean was friendly and informative and was happy to answer any questions. The work shop was in a peaceful rural setting and I had 2 and a half hours photographing the mice all to myself which meant I could move around and get shots at any angle. I also feel that the price is very fair. I thoroughly enjoyed my morning and look forward to Dean expanding the business. If I could give some constructive criticism I would but everything has been so well thought out and is exactly as it says on his website.

11/08/2017 A great afternoon at the Harvest Mice workshop. Dean was helpful and friendly and was happy to sort out my camera when I must have pressed the wrong button ! Pleased with my images as well - a very professional set up here and he handled the mice very sensitively. I would certainly recommend a visit or two.

Another fabulous visit to the harvest mice. I know it is only a few months since my last visit, but late summer gives lots of new opportunities such as photographing them on sunflowers and blackberries. Definitely worth a second session, shame about all the processing to come though!

Had a fabulous time photographing the Harvest Mice at Dean's place last week. Dean is a great host and there are opportunities galore to photograph these lovely little creatures, in a setting that has a natural backdrop and which allows you to photograph in inclement weather. Great fun and highly recommended.

I spent a fantastic morning and afternoon at Dean's Harvest Mouse Workshop on Monday 31st July, I had read the reports added by likeminded people before I decided to travel four hundred miles to attend the workshop so yes I was influenced by the opinions of others on here and I hasten to add that I don't believe that anyone has exaggerated in what has been written already. I found Dean to be a really friendly, helpful and down to earth guy, who suggested changing props for me long before I thought about it, so it was more routine than a task for him, he also really cares for his mice and replaces them with others when he sees them getting tired keeping the current mice being photographed active. It was so much more than just a photoshoot with Dean, he is attentive to every request and even suggests other props if you do not have any particular preference to what to use, all in all the day started with me meeting up with a stranger and saying goodbye to a friend when I was leaving. Thanks Dean I travelled down alone but never at any point in the day did I feel alone. I'm now looking forward to coming down again soon.

I cannot praise Dean and his harvest mouse workshop enough - from Deans helpful and efficient responses to my initial emails before booking, his knowledge, warm welcome and conversation, the fantastic set up he has for the mice and their welfare, his large and varied range of choice for additional props for the mice to climb/play on, through to providing the visiting photographer with such beautifully natural backgrounds. This was my first workshop with him but will certainly not be my last. A fantastic afternoon that was worth every penny, thank you Dean.

I have had such a fantastic time photographing Deans mice this afternoon. The set up is brilliant allowing you to get such natural looking photos, and the welfare of the mice is definetely a priority, with them being allowed to move around as they please rather than being placed for photos. I was able to take a really nice variety of photos as Dean provided plenty of different plants for the mice to club on and he made sure I was getting the photos I wanted. I would definetely recommend this to anyone wanting photograph these adorable little creatures, and will be booking in again in the future.

On 27 July 2017 I had a great session with Dean and his Harvest mice in Dorset, I knew straight away that it would go well as Dean had already given me so much time and knowledge of both the mice and equipment on the phone prior to my visit. On the day the set up is just as it needs to be for the photography and every effort is made for your comfort and ability to get the shot you have in your mind. But most of all Dean Mason is an all round nice bloke you bends over backwards to please and help you, so if your thinking of doing this or his great birdhide days don`t be scared just pick up the phone, it will be worth it. I for one am going straight back. David.

Many thanks Dean for going that extra mile for me, allowing a fantastic session with his harvest mice. Nothing was too much effort and I got some amazing photographs.
We were in a different area than usual due to the threat of gale force winds and driving rain. These didn't appear and we had the most wonderful background of yellow and blue flowers.
Can't thank Dean enough for his help during the workshop and would hope to do this again in the future.

Had a great time with Dean and the Mice on Saturday morning. Dean was trying out a new set-up and I have to say it worked a treat & we came away with loads of fantastic images.
The only minor problem is that I didn't manage to drink all the tea that was made for me!
Thanks for a great time Dean, hope to see you again soon.

Having spoken to Dean for many years on the phone whilst he was in his previous employment, it was a pleasure to finally meet him face to face. I spent the morning with Dean at his reflection pool and had an amazing time, the weather wasn't the best, the rain made reflections tricky, but I did manage to get some lovely reflective shots of the Great Spotted Woodpecker.
Deans approach is very professional and relaxing he has a wonderful knowledge of the subjects, and his pool set-up is first class, he also makes a great cup of tea!
I am looking forward to spending some time with the harvest mice next month, I am sure this will be equally as rewarding.
Many thanks Dean.

After many visits to Dean refection pool, which we call PARADISE.We could not resist going to the Harvest mice workshop.
WOW what an amazing time we both had,Dean's knowledge of all wildlife is second to none.Being out in the fresh air with these adorable little ones was great and with the added country side backdrop was a big plus.It was like having a surreal experience.Only Dean would be able to put together this unique experience.Due to the very hard work and dedication of both Dean and his lovely wife Steph. There is never a time when Dean is not considering the total welfare of the wildlife in question. We could not recommend this enough.Wildlife at it's very very best.

I had my second visit to Dean's reflection pool at the weekend. The weather was extremely hot, so much so that Dean took the trouble of contacting me the day before the session to advise me that, due to the heat the birds may not appear as much as usual. He very kindly gave me the option of delaying my visit to later in the year however, I decided to take a gamble and press ahead with the session. Boy, am I glad I did. GWS, Blue Jay, Goldfinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Nuthatch were frequent visitors amongst many others. We even had the glorious sight of a Sika Deer visiting us to graze in the field adjacent to the hide. Dean and Steph afforded me their usual first class hospitality and another great photo session was achieved. Not only is it great to spend a few hours with Mother Nature herself, it is also great to spend that time in the company of people who truly appreciate the beauty of nature.

I have been a couple of times to Dean's reflection pool, which is a brilliant day out.
I decided to give the Harvest Mice a try. Arranged to meet up yesterday morning. Upon arrival at the site, Dean as usual wanted to know if I had any preferences for shooting angles etc. After a brief discussion he swings into action. Setting up to my requests. Two and a half hours later I had in excess of six hundred shots, which today I am going through.
I'm more into shooting birds but this session made a very nice change.
Another bonus on the day was that I finally met up with his good lady wife Steph who also helps out where she can. A lovely, friendly couple.
Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

What an amazing place this is! Dean is so knowledgeable and quickly makes you feel at ease. He clearly works hard to maintain a constant flow of photo opportunities and loves his feathered visitors. On the day we went the ever changing light & rather strong winds made it a challenge but got some great photos. Would love to come back & can thoroughly recommend the reflection pool. Thanks Dean

I had a wonderful morning at Deans hide despite the terrible weather. He was a great host and he makes a great cuppa. The birds were obliging by still visiting in the high winds. I got some shots that I am very pleased with. Its a great place for any bird loving photographer. Next stop harvest mice........cant wait.

28/05/17 Another enjoyable workshop with Dean. This time the cutest little critters you are likely to see - Harvest Mice. Dean sets up realistic scenarios for you to photograph and the results are stunning. Dean is very helpful and informative with both the natural history side and the technical side. Can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

Well what a fab day we had with the mouses, on such a glorious sunny day.
Dean is professional and well versed in the way of little furry creatures, and his handling of them is the best i have seen. It was a wonder to watch the way he and they interacted together.
Further more, it is refreshing that Dean is open to ideas and worked with us to achieve what we wanted.
I have no doubt we will be back for more mouse orientated adventures.

Four of us visited Dean's Hide last Saturday and I admit I was initially apprehensive as I worried that my images would appear too contrived.
I was wrong, Dean has an excellent set up allowing what I think are pretty natural pictures, with the benefit of not spending hours tracking the bird life to end up with poorer quality images. You can see examples of my images on Flickr; honda1998rrw, which hopefully show some of the Hide's potential and were taken primarily with my old sigma 120-300 plus a 1.4x multiplier on a full frame camera.
I had an excellent day and would highly recommend this venue; Dean, his good lady, the abundance of birds throughout the day and the facilities all make for a great photography day out.

Harvest Mice:
What can I say, that has not already been said ?
Dean has great communication prior to the selected date.
Meeting on time, exactly as planned.
The set up is very professional and incredibly flexible to [my] fussy needs.
Dean has a superb approach to this workshop and helps enormously with the set-up and expectations.
Oh, and the acrobats [mice] are simply adorable.
Highly recommended to everyone, even you professional types. Give it a go, you will be very pleased you did.
Thank you Dean. Brilliant morning :-)

Fantastic day spent in the Reflection Pool Hide with 3 friends. Prolific birdlife all day. I was using a 150-600 mm lens on an APSC camera which was excellent for the small birds, I would suggest that the focal range for this hide is the equivalent of 70 to 600.

I went with three of my camera club colleagues for a day in the Reflection Pool Hide on 27/05/17. I have been in bird hides before but never in a dedicated photographic hide. The whole experience was excellent. Now to whittle down the large number of very good images that I obtained!

Myself & 3 friends used the Reflection Pool Hide for a whole day on 27/05/17. Dean & his wife gave us a very good introduction to the hide & all its facilities when we were first arrived. We were then left to get on with shooting all the many birds that visit the pool. There were so many bird visits that we had to top up the various food stations on 3 occasions throughout the day. We all had a great day & between the four of us we shot some 6000 images. Dean & his wife are very friendly & nothing is too much trouble for them.

I thoroughly recommend Dean's Harvest Mouse Workshop having spent a really lovely morning on Saturday with friends talking hundreds of shots! It is plain to see how well cared for the mice are and it was a joy to be able to observe them up close... such gorgeous creatures! Dean was incredibly amenable to our constant prop changes and I have come away with enough shots to keep me editing for a week (or more!) I can't wait to go back and have another go sometime! :)

Until today I was a wildlife photography virgin (excluding the flies, bees, ladybirds and butterflies I've been snapping for years). Today some friends and I went to Dean's Harvest Mouse workshop ... and I am now a convert. Dean was helpful, encouraging and informative about the mice. We all had a wonderful time, and I suspect I'll be back at some point. Thank you Dean and Steph :)

Dean's Harvest Mouse workshop is absolutely amazing. It has however ruined my social life as all I've wanted to do since returning home is to review my photos!

My sister and I met Dean in a local pub car park and drove to the location about 3 miles away. We parked our car at the entrance of the lane and walked for a couple of minutes. The harvest mouse 'tank' is in a field which means you get lovely natural and changeable backgrounds. It was also secluded from traffic and lovely to see and hear the birds flying around.

Dean offers just about the right amount of advice and support. He changes over the plants, that the mice run up, regularly and has a large array. Bring some of your own if you want something in particular, and Dean will advise if it's okay for the mice or not.

The mice work shifts so are active for the photo shoot but get plenty of rest in between! They love the chance to run up the grasses and stems and while very active, you can get some lovely photos of them. Dean will help where needed or move back and leave you alone.

On a final note, Dean is such a lovely person and does everything for you to have a great experience at a very affordable price. Highly recommended - and i will be going back when the season changes!

Just spent the morning with Dean at his harvest mice workshop - fantastic few hours with a bloke who is absolutely passionate about his photography which manifests itself in his attention to detail, with nothing being too much trouble.
Dean's reflection poll for me next, hopefully followed by the Buzzard hide, if they're half as good as the Harvest mice i'm in for a treat.
Highly recommended.

Spent the most amazing morning wth Dean and his little mice. The set up is amazing and got some fab shots. Used a new lens and Dean so helpful as usual. A thoroughly enjoyable experience with down to earth Dean Mason. An opportunity to do the mice workshop meant being able to capture something on camera which is hard to come across in the wild. Set in beautiful surroundings, with happy and well cared for mice, made the whole experience both delightful and memorable. Well organised too. Will definitely go back 🙂 Thanks again Dean

I seldom write reviews, but after spending a morning at the reflection pool hide I felt compelled to share the experience. I arrived to strong winds and expecting a dull day, but the hide still delivered and I came away with some awesome views of Siskin and Great Spotted Woodpecker in particular. However, what made the day particularly enjoyable was the personal attention of Dean, who couldn't have done more to help/support/entertain - he's clearly passionate about the wildlife, and a thoroughly nice bloke to boot (even keeping me topped up with tea throughout). I've already booked my next visit and will preach to anyone and everyone who will listen about them doing the same. Thank you so much, just a great day and terrific value for money!

The other morning I spent a few self indulgent hours in the lovely company of Dean Mason and his adorable harvest mice. I am so pleased that I took this workshop. The experience was wonderful. I urge any-one who is thinking about doing so to go along. Dean met me at a local spot, where I followed him (in car) to the field where everything is set up. He even adapted things to suit my diminutive height. I would definitely do this, or another, workshop with Dean again.

I have just arrived back home from one of Dean's 'Harvest mice workshops' wow! what an incredible experience. I feel so lucky that I was able to attend and capture some images of these dear little souls! I have a keen interest in photography but I am very much a beginner in terms of the 'technical side' but Dean did not make me feel intimidated at all. The workshops give you the freedom to get on taking photographs without being disturbed with an absolute perfect balance of intervention from Dean and he will help with any questions. It seems that Dean has a natural talent to help the mice pose!
My only complaint is that my face hurts from smiling so much! haha :) thank you so much and I will be back for sure, next the reflection pool I think. If you are thinking of booking a slot please do... you wont regret it :)

I am an amateur photographer who enjoys experiencing, and photographing, the environment and wildlife.

I spent a chilly morning in Dean's hide in late April. At the risk of repeating earlier comments, this was a fantastic morning with frequent appearances of a wide range of species - spotted woodpeckers and a range of tits and finches. Even the pheasant had a turn at the Reflection Pool. Activity seemed to come in bursts, and it was sometimes hard to keep track of everything that was going on.

As far as the hide is concerned, it has "up-market" facilities and is cosy and welcoming - although it can obviously get quite cold sitting around for several hours. Dean is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful and, importantly, is a man of integrity. Whilst he cannot summon up wildlife on demand, he does his best to ensure that clients get good value for their money and that they visit with realistic expectations.

Equipment wise Dean provides gimbals which are easy and effective to use. I used a full frame DSLR with 200-500mm zoom. The zoom was useful for rapidly changing between reflection shots (for which I was typically using about 400mm) and close-ups (500mm). For the smaller birds (which are in the majority anyway) a 600mm lens would also have been useful (but not necessary).

Highly recommended - I will be back.

A group of us used Dean's reflecting pool hide in March 2017. The setup was very well organised with tea, coffee and a toilet all ready to go. The reflecting pool setup was organised to insure your shots had the best chance to be excellent. The background is far enough away to give you some lovely bokeh to enhance your shots. We had lots of visitors the whole time we were there (Great Spotted Woodpecker, Siskin, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Green Finch, Coal Tit, Gold Finch, Robin, Nuthatch) highly recommended.

A whole day spent with Dean in his hide is a true experience not to be missed! not only do you get a wonderful and varied selection of birds coming in and parading around for you, you get cups of tea or coffee all day long... and what do you need .. if you have been drinking Dean's coffee?? you know it! a loo.. and what a loo you have there, all mod cons.. and when you have to go.. Dean is out topping up the feeders and cleaning the water reflection pool out, as it is unavoidable that the odd feather or husks fall in. No tripods are needed as Dean has all the Gimble heads and plates there, so you only need to unpack your camera and lens and away you go sitting in the comfy chairs also supplied.
All you need remember, lots of cards and spare batteries... and something for lunch.
Then sit back and enjoy the birds in abundance.
Thank you Dean, a very memorable day.

I had a fantastic morning with the harvest mice today, the only problem is where to find the time for all the processing that will be necessary. Dean has a great set up, and I would recommend the workshop to anybody wanting to photograph these enchanting animals. Be sure to take plenty of memory cards!

Wow - had a lovely time at the Harvest Mouse Workshop this morning! Got (a lot) of great shots thanks to Dean's hard work with the set up and the mice. It was especially good to have proper natural backgrounds for the pictures, Dean has put a lot of thought into showing his mice to their best for photographers. The mice are so cute and it was as much fun watching them as it was photographing them. It was a wonderful morning and look forward to doing it again!!

If you want a great session of photography, look no further than one of Dean's hide days, I have just had a memorial morning in the presence of the most adorable and acrobatic Harvest mice. It is such a privilege so see and photograph them at such close quarters.
Dean is first class, his set up, knowledge of the subject and what also impressed me was his concern about the mouse's welfare.
Thanks Dean for a great day and I will certainly be back

I booked a half day with Dean, and I have to say, I was impressed.

Firstly the photography opportunities are continuous. I was using 500mm full frame and woodpecker shots pretty much filled my frame.

Whilst there upon request he moved various perches around to help me get the shot I wanted. I would highly recommend.

Hi Dean, great to actually meet you in person after knowing of you for so many years
Had a great day despite the weather being a little iffy at times but managed to get several 'keepers. I must say the facilities laid on are perfect and what with the Gimbal heads already in place, a cozy chair to sit in and a constant supply of tea and coffee it all added up to a great experience.
I also appreciated the help with the gear and your expertise in sorting out the problem I had to start with, really appreciated.
I would certainly recommend the hide to anyone knowing that they would be delighted with the set up. I sincerely wish you all the very best with your venture, it was a delight to visit.
Hope to visit again soon.
Best wishes,
Geoff..

A great day spent at Dean's wildlife hide. Dean has put a lot of thought and effort into the setup for both wildlife and customers. The reflection pool with feeder sand perches work very well. His knowledge and passion for wildlife really shows, along with this in making your day a good one. Would Recommend. Thanks again.

Ok shall I be nice or truthful. Truthful it is. A great day 100%. I don't know what I was expecting but it was a really nice day out. I'm not counting my 9 hour round trip to get there. Dean was on hand to offer advice if wanted but not intrusive. The set up allows several different type of shots all from one seat. If you want to move then there are even more to be had. If I was to make a recommendation it would be this. I was using a Sigma 150-600mm lens on a full frame camera. This lens will only go to f/6.3 so on some wider shots the background was repetitive in colours.(camouflage dressing) I would like to see a bit more variation, but I must stress this is a very minor niggle and it in no way even slightly spoilt the day. Anyway if I was that bothered I could use PS to mix it up. So my overall opinion is, a great day for all levels of competency. Dean will make sure (if possible) you are getting the shots you like and he allows you to add and remove props and when I left I didn't even have to clean out the toilet.. tee hee

Me and a friend from Bracknell Camera Club spent Friday 24 March with Dean at the reflection pool. We had a great time. Dean was enormously helpful. Giving us tips and putting up with our 'banter'! We were lucky to have activity all day. I cannot recommend this opportunity enough. Dean is a great host and this is most certainly the Harrods of hides.

A few days ago I had the pleasure of spending a day with Dean at his hide, its spacious, clean, comfortable and very well equipped with gimbal heads, hot drinks facility and even a toilet.
Dean constantly checked with me throughout the day that I was happy and obtaining images that I was pleased with.
I'm Mr fastidious but nothing was too much trouble he was always willing to accommodate me and make the smallest changes or pass on his wealth of knowledge.
There was never a lull in activity a constant stream of woodland birds visiting a number of different perches or the reflection pool providing me with a wide variety of images.
Would I recommend Dean and his hide most definitely, he has a number of ideas and plans for the future so keep an I eye on his website or Facebook.
Thanks again for a fantastic day Dean can't wait to come back.

WOW! what an amazing day all made possible by Dean and his meticulous attention to detail. I booked the full day and was glad I did. The birds just kept arriving, even the Greater Spotted Woodpeckers were arriving in 2s and 3s, and kept coming all day, landing on the various props Dean had carefully setup. At the end of the day I had drank my body weight in coffee and taken enough phots to fill both my 64GB memory cards. I have already spoken to Dean about my next visit and I'm looking forward to returning. Thanks Dean.

Went back to Deans hide again as I had had such a good time in October with my sister. I booked a half day as I had to get home. Was met by Dean and was settled into the hide. The birds came within seconds of us being there. A windy day but it was still fab and I really enjoyed it. Dean helped with questions on my camera and so knowledgeable about all the birds. Can't wait to go again and again but a whole day as the time flies by so fast. I could just sit there all day and just watch the birds it's very comfortable and warm even though it was February. So so worth a visit worth every penny

Just returned home from a visit to Deans Hide, Dean had been watching the weather and emailed me a couple of days before my visit saying the weather was not going to be good, would i like to rearange...no i said ill still come down.. On the day i meet Dean in the wind and pouring rain, Dean gave me another chance to rearrange. Not a chance i said..On arrival at the hide which was easy to get to, the hide and the facilities were superb, plenty of space and very comfortable, toilet at the back and tea making facilities inside.. The photographic facillities outside were very well planned and thought out with the photographer in mind. The feeders were topped up regually thoughout the day. The perches and backgrounds were changed to my requirements. So what can i say about my day..number one: excellent facilities, number two: plenty of birds all day long, number three: Dean a top bloke.
Dont be put off by the wind and rain, you will miss out big time...
Thanks Dean, see you again

I spent 5 amazing hours with Dean and Steph in their hide, my first time taking photos of birds and I can't wait to go back again. The hours whizzed by way too fast and the birds never stopped appearing the whole time! Dean kept the feeders topped up all the time and even had a couple of different backdrops which were changed during my visit. Lovely hot tea was made whenever needed but I was so busy taking over 3000 photos, I didn't have time to drink it! The reflecting pool was just stunning and I can't believe how professional some of my shots look even though I'm very much an amateur. Dean and Steph are the loveliest people you could ever wish to meet and nothing is too much trouble for them and I will be back again very soon hopefully!

I am a professional photographer based in Dorset. I love to photograph and capture the stunning wildlife that our county plays home to. I have been looking at local hides to obtain some new images for my portfolio. After seeing what Dean has to offer and also a few friends’ recommendations I booked a day with him. I picked a terrible day weather wise, however the hide set up and location was perfect for photographing in. Greeted with a smiley face and warm cup of tea we got set up to shoot, The hide is lovely! Warm quiet and plenty of space wit the kettle not to far away. It is also very clean and tidy and has a toilet.

I booked a half day with dean and within an hour I had seen some stunning birds flying down to the reflection pool. Deans great and joins you in the hide giving you advice on birds and what to look for. He also likes to tweak the set up and make sure there is plenty of food to keep the birds busy whilst I snapped away.

I had a fantastic day and would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to capture some really unique images in a lovely and well maintained hide.

Thanks for a great day in the hide last Sunday. Great set up and a good mix of very obliging woodland birds. Lost count of the number of visits from the woodpeckers (at least three of them) and nuthatches. We both even managed a few "keepers". Look forward to seeing you again in a few weeks, when hopefully the bullfinches will be about.

Had a great day at Deans hide. Took 40gb of memory cards and filled them all, good job I was only there for half a day or I would have had to leave the hide to buy some more! Once I've sorted through the hundreds of photos I took I will be back its a great place and an abundance of birds. Thanks Dean.

Spent the day at Dean Mason's Windows on Wildlife hide for a third time yesterday.

Oh where do I start, what a day. Before arrival I had asked Dean if he would be so kind as to source me some lichen branches, "not a problem" was his reply. Dean then asked me what background would I like, a choice of three was given. I kindly asked if it would be possible to use all three throughout the day, his reply was "not a problem".

On arrival at the hide I could see Dean had been busy, as all the backgrounds were pinned up already and a fine selection of lichen branches were to hand. Throughout the day Dean changed backgrounds and branches whenever I had asked without any hesitation.

Oh man do I enjoy these days at the hide, the bird activity and variety is insane. Thanks again Dean for a top day, made even better by the great company with someone that I believe I can now call a true friend.

Dean has put a lot of thought into the design, setting and maintenance of this hide. It is well visited by an almost continuous stream of a number of species and the backgrounds and permutations of settings are first class. I used a mix of 500mm f4 and 300mm f2.8 prime lenses and a 200-400 f4 zoom. Dean is on hand to keep the feed replenished and to vary set-ups to suit requirements and experimentation as the day goes on. This hide is good for anyone looking to try a hide for the first time and who wants to see what good looks like with a bird hide. It is also equally good for more experienced photographers looking to capture some different images to their portfolio. The hide is well kept and equipped and hot drink making facilities are a real bonus. Most enjoyable and productive day Dean, thank you.

Spent 5 hours in the hide this week. Early morning light lead to softer light later in the morning. The pool is a great set-up with classic shots easy to obtain. Used 300mm and 100-400mm zoom to great effect. Very interesting watching how different birds had repetitive habits, returning to the same point several times to take the food which Dean had put out. So well worth using fixed focussing on one point and waiting for a particular bird to return. I definitely learned a lot about working with such rapidly moving subjects and framing shots. Will return at a different time of year hoping to do better next time. Am looking forward to using Dean's new 'hawk hide' in the summer. PS After the hide we went to nearby Shell Beach to see the murmuration of starlings.

We booked a 5 hour session for the 19th of January. Come the day, it was very cold and Dean very kindly phoned us before we left home to say that the reflection pool was frozen hard, so did we still want to come. We decided to go ahead and came home with no regrets whatsoever. We had some amazing shots of birds on the ice sipping water as it melted, and then half way through the session, Dean was able to remove enough of the ice to enable us to get some classic reflection shots. It was an unexpected and very welcome pleasure to have Dean provide us with hot drinks and good company throughout the session. The toilet was also a bonus. To sum up, the whole set-up was well thought out and managed, the seed was replenished as necessary and we came away with many great images. We shall return.

I had booked a day's session at the hide for yesterday. On driving over to Dean's place I wondered if perhaps I should have only booked a half day as I thought maybe a full day will be too long. On arriving there Dean takes over. He assisted me in getting the gear inside, within a few minutes a steaming cup of tea was before me. Then the fun began. Eight hours of non-stop activity before my eyes and camera lens.
The hide has been very well thought out. blacked out inside. Gimbals mounted by the "Windows", so no need for tripods etc.
Tea and coffee provided. Seperate toilet at the rear of the hide. Dean is a very friendly and knowledgeable guy. Very quickly puts you at ease and ensures you make the most of your time there.
Before I left at the end of the day I booked another day with Dean and his hide for March.
Can't wait !

I have just come home from my Visit to the Windows on Wildlife Hide, and oh my god it was just amazing! So much thought has gone into the planning and creation of this set-up. Dean & Steph were both so welcoming and friendly, the cups of tea were a massive bonus to keep our hands warm! We had non-stop visitors to the reflection pool, and I believe I've managed to come away with a lovely set of images from my 2 hours spent in the hide! I will most definately be making a return visit.!

Having just returned from a full day in the hide with Dean, I really cannot recommend it highly enough!
The attention to detail is amazing compared to many rental hides in the UK.
The hide is insulated and heated, with hot tea and coffee on tap, and a ready supply of biscuits!
It is also worth pointing out that there is a very welcome separate toilet located just to the rear of the hide, which again is a detail that I've not come across before at a UK rental hide.
During the course of the day the Nuthatch and Woodpecker were the stars of the show, and performed constantly all day. I would estimate the woodpeckers visited the perches and reflection pool somewhere between 40 and 50 times during my 8 hours in the hide!
Also had Starling, Bluetit, Great tit, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Marsh tit, Siskin and many other species visiting throughout the day!
All in all a great day out that I would highly recommend :)

Hi Dean
Thanks for a great day yesterday. A well presented and appointed hide. You have obviously thought about what you would like as a visitor. Very welcoming and, and yes one of that burst of shots claimed the Marsh Tit. In fact I probably have two worth working on. Thanks again it was a very worthwhile experience. Just a perfect day with Dean at his custom built hide which he has designed for photographers totally with photography in mind. The photo opportunities are endless and I really cannot recommend it highly enough. Even if you are not into photography it's worth the visit just to experience British wildlife at its glorious best with woodpeckers and many, many other bird species pretty much on tap. All that plus coffee or tea on tap and the great company of Dean himself - what more could you ask for?

The Windows on Wildlife Hide is a jewel amongst those I’ve visited. The experience is enhanced by the company, attentiveness and warmth of Dean who’ll advise and support you throughout your visit, and ensure bate is topped up and pond cleaned. The hide is secluded enough to ensure you won’t be disturbed, yet it’s easy to park close by with just a short walk to get to it.

The L shaped hide is a masterpiece of intelligent design with plenty of space, several photo-windows and other facilities for photography as well as a kettle and toilet. In addition, the hide is insulated making it comfortable but without disconnecting you from the natural surroundings.

Outside, the reflection pool is the star attraction with easy viewing for two people. There is also a stone feature, several other posts and pertches, and an additional window opens up on a field with deer, foxes etc

The most striking thing is the variety of visiting birds and seeing them with their reflections in the cleverly constructed reflection pool. The birds seem very comfortable with the hide and because of that the pictures I got were way beyond my expectations. I lost count of the number of birds I saw and at such close quarters. I was thrilled, amongst those that visited were Nuthatch, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Siskin, coal Tit, Great Tit and Blue Tits. And even a pheasant!

It took me a while to come down from the exhilaration of seeing the birds so close up together with the warmth of Dean (and Steph’s) support. I am now basking in the glow of the wonderful photographs I took (and my friends acclaim of how great a photographer I must be!). However, be sure to stock up with memory cards and charge spare batteries for your visit – I used up both my batteries!

I have been to many hides up and down the country but the windows on wildlife hide must be one of the best. Built by a photographer for photographers, Dean's workshop offerS as little or as much help needed to take stunning pictures of woodland wildlife. Totally recommend this photography workshop.

What a fab day spent in Dean’s hide. As a complete novice to bird photography I was a little apprehensive at the thought of photographing birds whilst in the company of such a talented photographer as Dean, however I need not have worried as I was made to feel totally at ease right from the start.

On approaching the hide I was immediately overwhelmed by the bird activity that was clearly visible. The hide is comfortable with several vantage points to choose from and a gimbal supplied. Looking out from the hide there is a reflection pool and perches all of which Dean has made a great job of making them look so perfectly natural.

Once I was settled in the hide it was just non-stop action from the off, I felt like a child at Christmas, too frightened to drink the tea that Dean had made me in case I missed a shot. Dean was on hand to name birds that I didn’t know the name of. Birds that paid a visit on the day were the Greater spotted Woodpecker, Goldfinch, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Greenfinch, and Nuthatch to name a few.

Anyone wishing to visit the hide will not be disappointed, but please be advised to make sure that you have spare batteries and plenty of space on your memory cards as I took over 6000 images on the day. Rest assured, I will be returning on a regular basis.

Thanks Dean for a fantastic day, you are a true gent.

Hi Dean & Steph
Our first visit to your hide was breath taking,we took many image's that we would have found difficult to achieve without the professional work that Dean has done to the hide also the raised reflection pond.
This experience was with out doubt one of the best Wildlife encounters we have ever experienced. You have both worked so very hard together to achieve a friendly, but professional care plan, which offers a wonderful variety of woodland birds in their natural habitat, giving you plenty of opportunities to photograph so amazing images.
Dean your attention to detail with the whole day is to be commended.
We booked for Dean's hide prior to our two week holiday to Dorset,we enjoyed it so much we decided to revisit on the second week, and thankfully Dean could accommodate a revisit.
The second visit was again more than we could have wished for,all birds were so happy to visit their home of paradise that Dean & Steph have created for them.Their love and devotion to wildlife that now the wildlife call their home.
We have visited many different hide but Windows on Wildlife Nature Photography Hide,is a bespoke hide like no other, comfortable seating, numerous viewing windows and a real plus for the ladies it is insulated from the cold, also very comfortable on hot days, it has all been very well thought out, no detail has been missed.
Anyone thinking of a day in paradise! then this is the place for you.
It is PARADISE right here on earth.
Thanks so very much Dean & Steph we will be back very very soon. xx

First time photographing wild birds and I came home with so many images i'm chuffed to bits with. Can't recommend highly enough. Dean and Steph are two of the nicest people you could ever meet. I'll be back next year :-)

Hi Dean, Hi Steph,
Just to say a massive thanks for your wonderful hospitality during my recent visit to see you on the south coast.

Having known Dean through photography for a number of years now I knew that whatever he undertook he would put everything he had into it, his attention to detail is second to none and it shows in every aspect of this terrific set up, as is their passion and knowledge of the wildlife that visits the site.

The hide is expertly built to an extremely high standard, very comfortable indeed and offers views to three different habitats-a reflection pool with hedgerow, an open field on farmland and also a wooded area which I'm sure will attract very different species giving photographers a great variety to photograph.

It is also worth mentioning that due to the hides location close to the south coast there is always the chance of unusual species showing up too, so it would definitely be worth visiting at least once every season, the Spring and Winter should be amazing and I for one will definitely be returning.

Well done guys on a fabulous set up and I sincerely wish you all the best for the future.

I spent a really enjoyable half day at the hide and without hesitation I can highly recommend it. Dean has really worked hard to set this up with so much thought and attention to detail, using his vast knowledge and experience of wildlife photography to produce a hide of the absolute highest quality. He really has thought of everything!

I was able to come away with a bagful of shots that I was really pleased with and Dean was on hand to give help and guidance whenever I needed it. A great experience all round and I'll definitely be visiting again in the near future.

Reflection pools can be very tricky to set up. the one made by Dean is remarkable in many ways. The hide is also very spacious and comfortable, with regular tea as an added bonus. would love to visit again at a different time of the year for different species.

Had a lovely day at the hide. Dean and Steph were very welcoming and went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and to enable us to get some lovely shots. There were a variety of birds who were constant visitors to the lovely reflective pool. We had a constant supply of coffee, friendly chatter, reflective quiet time and came home with some beautiful photos. Can't wait to visit again. If you are thinking about it I would definitely go. It's a big thumbs up from me. 😄

Dean and Steph's hide is second to none. You will seriously struggle and probably fail to find a better one. We've visited a lot of hides and have yet to see one that comes close.
The service they provide totally matches the high quality of the hide and there was almost constant action during our 12 hour stint in the hide.
If you're reading this review to inform a decision on whether to go or not, it's a no-brainer, just go. You'll not be disappointed.

I had the pleasure of a day out at Dean and Steph’s hide yesterday and what a great experience I had. My initial thoughts were ‘wow’……..this comes from my first impressions when I set eyes on their entirely self built hide and were reiterated as I seen their set-up more closely. Dean and Steph have set this family hide up with the utmost attention to detail in order to allow comfort for their clients and consideration for the wildlife that appears at the hide. An ‘L’ shaped hide that offers numerous viewing windows to different aspects (fields and perches) and even upper and lower level viewing windows. It offers comfortable seating and is insulated from the cold (and extreme heat) very well indeed. As far as hides go (I’ve been to a few) this is by far the most comfortable and well thought out. Dean and Steph have spared no expense to build the hide, reflection pool and other perches. They are both very welcoming and present a first class service, changing the perches at their client(s) request. There is tea and coffee on offer and an outside toilet facility. The parking is safe, secure and just a 2 min walk from the hide, which is secluded and absolutely uninterrupted by passers-by, dogs, public etc. As for the wildlife, I shot just short of 2k images and to be honest it was a full-on session with constant visitors to the perches and reflection pool; I’ve never had such a busy shoot, to the extent that I was afraid to go to the loo in case I missed something!! Visitors included numerous woodland birds (I lost count of the variety) and their juveniles (the juvenile Robin was such a highlight for me as they are so photogenic), several Woodpeckers including juveniles and Jays were also a real highlight for me so close up!!. All the birds visit the reflection pool and they squabble too, which forms the basis of some fantastic images. Finally, both Dean and Steph are working tirelessly to introduce more regular species including, owls, foxes, badgers and buzzards, they may even offer some night shoots eventually…… I’ll certainly be returning. To finish, I have no association with Dean and Steph, yesterday was the first time I met them, but I was in awe of the effort they have made with this hide. They are extremely genuine and have a passion for wildlife and allowing others to photograph it at close quarters. Kudos to them both. I fully recommend a visit.

I've always wanted to have a go at wildlife photography from a hide. I'd heard they can be uncomfortable, but the day I spent in Dean's hide was a complete surprise. It had comfy seats, gimbal mounts at the windows, tea and biscuits and even a discreet loo round the back! But most importantly, a fabulous reflection pool and a wonderful selection of natural perches. The wildlife was abundant and some of the bird visitors were a first for me. Fantastic value for money and a wonderfully quiet and relaxing day. Thanks, Dean! I'll be back!

I had a fantastic afternoon at Dean's Wildlife Photography Hide. Dean was incredibly helpful and accommodating, he cleared the reflection pool of distractions and even moved the branches that the woodpeckers were landing on so that they were in the best light. The hide is well set up and hot drinks were readily available. We were able to photograph a variety of birds. woodpeckers, bull finches, jays and siskin to name a few. My colleague even managed to get a good shot of a fox. I would recommend this hide to anyone who is interested in photographing wildlife and I will certainly be back at a future date. Thank you Dean.

This is a great hide and set up, run by someone who loves nature. There was plenty of activity and it's only going to get better! Dean was there throughout the visit to move props to the best light, and to clear out distractions in the reflection pool, to make sure we got some fantastic images. Thoroughly recommended for a great day out.

I was fortuitous to have been given the opportunity to meet up with Dean Mason, the mastermind behind the 'Windows On Wildlife Nature Hide' to say the hide setup is bordering on perfection would be an understatement, it is better than perfect! Dean couldn't have been more accommodating, his knowledge of the wildlife, along with his passion in making your day a comfortable one in the hide, is something that shouldn't be missed.
